  1. The fact that your description and the article uses the words “had sex with” and “had an affair with”, rather than raped, is evidence that society views the sexual assault and rape of boys and men by women to be a light-hearted joke. In reality, rape and statutory rape traumatizes and destroys the lives of most male victims.

    • LAC,

Your words couldn’t have hit me any more squarely than they did. You are profoundly correct. I must apologize to you, to me (having been a victim myself), to everyone who has endured the trauma of rape, and the family and friends of those who have endured the trauma of rape.

I try to be conscious of the words I use in my posts, making sure everyone knows rape is rape, no matter which gender is the victim and which is the perpetrator. In writing what I did at the beginning of the post, I was trying not to call her a rapist until she is proven to be so, which is the same standard I fight for when it comes to men accused of rape. But yes, I should have said she is accused of rape, because that is what it is when a teacher has sex with an underage student. So, while she is not a convicted rapist, she is definitely an accused rapist and I should have addressed her accordingly.

The point I was trying to make with the post is the soft-sell language, and the cutesy crap within the article which I found disturbing. 3/4 of the article was about photo sessions, and her being ‘pretty’ and ‘hot,’ and the mythology of mermaids and sirens.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes. Diligence is what we need.

      Joe
